Reclaim Your Weekend

We know the struggle. You want to do something fun with the family (or your visiting friends), but the idea of fighting traffic just to sit on the same patch of sand feels exhausting. The mental load of planning “what’s next” can ruin the relaxation you actually need.

XploreRide is the perfect “Anchor Activity” to build your day around. It is short enough (40 minutes) that it doesn’t eat up your whole day, but exciting enough to feel like a major event. Plus, because we start and end in the heart of the city at DFS Waikiki, you are perfectly positioned for the best food, shopping, and sights Honolulu has to offer.

Stop wondering what to do. Follow our local guide to the “Perfect Saturday Loop” and look like a planning genius.

The “Sea, Sky & Snacks” Schedule

Follow this stress-free timeline that hits all the highlights without the burnout.
It balances activity, food, and education perfectly.

10:30 AM – The Main Event: XploreRide

Start your day at DFS Waikiki. Board our air-conditioned electric bus and escape the rising morning heat.

  • The Experience: For the next 40 minutes, you will travel through the “Deep Sea,” “Volcanic,” and “Flower” zones. It is the perfect energy booster to wake everyone up. The kids get to hunt for Mana Stones, and you get to enjoy the AC while seeing the city in a whole new way.
  • Pro Tip: Arrive 15 minutes early (around 10:15 AM) to get fitted for your headset comfortably and take a cool photo with the bus wrap before other guests arrive!

11:30 AM – Lunch at Royal Hawaiian Center

You will drop off right where you started. Walk just across the street to the Royal Hawaiian Center, the premier dining hub of Waikiki.

  • For Families: Head to the Pāʻina Lānai Food Court (Level 2). It has everything from Champion’s Steak & Seafood to Uncle Tetsu’s Cheesecake. Everyone gets exactly what they want without an argument.
  • For Hosting Guests: Take them to Island Vintage Coffee for a famous acai bowl or The Cheesecake Factory for a classic crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
  • Bonus: If you parked here, remember to validate your parking ticket at the restaurant to save money!

1:00 PM – The Aquarium or The Park

Now that you have seen the digital sea turtles on the bus, go see the real ones!

  • Option A (Our Partner): Head to the Waikīkī Aquarium. It is a pleasant 15-minute walk through Kapiolani Park or a quick bus ride. See the endangered monk seals and living coral reefs you just learned about on the tour. It connects the “virtual” lesson with real-world nature.
  • Option B (Budget Friendly): Grab an ice cream and walk to Kapiolani Park. Let the kids run on the massive green lawns while you relax under the shade of a century-old Banyan tree. It is the perfect low-stress way to burn off lunch.

Making It Easy (The Boring Stuff)

A great weekend can be ruined by bad logistics. Here is how to hack your visit like a pro:

  • Parking Pro Tip: Don’t circle the block looking for street parking—it’s not worth the stress. We recommend parking at the Royal Hawaiian Center or Waikiki Shopping Plaza. Both offer validation packages if you eat or shop nearby, making it surprisingly affordable for a few hours in the city.
  • Beat the Crowds: The 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM slots are our most popular for families. If you want a quieter experience (or a romantic date vibe), try the late afternoon rides (3:00 PM+). You’ll catch the “Golden Hour” lighting in Waikiki right before dinner.
  • What to Wear: XploreRide is fully air-conditioned, so regular street clothes (shorts, t-shirts, sundresses) are perfect. If you plan to hit the beach after, bring your swimsuits in a bag—there is no need to wear them on the bus, and you’ll be more comfortable in dry clothes during the ride.

What Our Riders Are Saying

TripAdvisor Rating: 4.8/5 Stars

Great Immersive Experience!!

“The Xplore ride was really fun and brought out the kid in me! If you know a little about VR and Mixed Reality, this experience starts off with Mixed Reality with nice fish and marine life around you and some light educational sections on Waikiki and the beaches. The ride does transition into full VR at times with underwater volcanic vents, above ground volcanic eruption, a 360 visual aerial view above the islands (nice!), and an underwater route with all sorts of aquatic creatures around you, known to be local to the islands and some nice coral (this was my favorite part). There is more light educational pieces dispersed in these full on VR parts as well. The movement of the bus really gives you the sense of “traveling” through the VR worlds and even the fish “swimming” through the bus in Mixed Reality was enhanced by the movement. Our host was wonderful and really explained everything well! The driver was very friendly too. The experience can be heard in Japanese or English. Too me, the only negative, though the headsets are of very high quality, was the pass through video of the outside was a bit unfocused when it was too far in the distance (like the ocean views near Diamond Head). Final thoughts are that it is definitely worth it and please consider supporting this business and others that bring the beauty of nature and the immersion of technology and imagination together!”

“I was able to see and enjoy the amazing Hawaii. The content was good. The tour time was just right. I also look forward to the new footage. The description of the person in charge is easy to understand, and it is OK for the elderly.”
