A Field Trip They Will Actually Remember

Textbooks are necessary, but they can’t let you live history. Diagrams explain coral reefs, but they can’t surround you with one. XploreRide offers schools in Honolulu a groundbreaking educational experience that bridges the gap between the classroom and the real world.

Hosted by HIS and produced by the creative visionaries at NAKED, INC., this tour uses Extended Reality (XR) to transform Waikiki into a living museum. It is the perfect fusion of entertainment and education (“Edutainment”), allowing students to visualize abstract concepts—from volcanic geology to marine ecosystems—right before their eyes.

Forget the logistical nightmares of hiking trips under the hot sun or the passive boredom of traditional lectures. XploreRide provides a safe, fully contained, and air-conditioned learning environment that engages the “TikTok generation” in a way traditional methods cannot. It is the field trip of the future, available today.

Three Pillars of Learning

Our content is designed to support a wide range of educational subjects, making it easy for teachers to justify the trip
to administrators. Here is a deep dive into what your students will learn during the 40-minute journey:

1. Marine Science & Conservation (Biology)

We don’t just show pretty fish; we teach students why they matter. As the bus “submerges” into the digital ocean, students witness the vibrant biodiversity of Hawaii’s waters.

  • Ecosystem Awareness: The content visually demonstrates the delicate balance of the marine ecosystem, raising awareness about critical issues like coral bleaching and habitat preservation.
  • Stewardship: Through our partnership with the Waikīkī Aquarium, we emphasize the concept of Malama (caring for the land and sea), inspiring students to become protectors of their island home.

2. Technology & Engineering (STEM)

Inspire the next generation of innovators by showing them technology in action.

  • Physics & Coding: The RideVision system is a real-world application of physics and computer science. Students can see how GPS, accelerometers, and gyroscope data are fused in real-time to synchronize virtual content with the physical motion of the bus.
  • Sustainability: The bus itself is a lesson. As a Zero-Emission Electric Vehicle, it serves as a case study for Environmental Science classes discussing renewable energy and reducing carbon footprints.

3. Hawaiian History & Culture (Social Studies)

We ensure that technology honors tradition.

  • Authentic Storytelling: Supervised by Cultural Advisor Blaine Kia (a respected Kumu Hula), the tour introduces students to local legends like Uncle Manu (the ancestral Manta Ray) and the spiritual significance of “Mana”.
  • Geology: Students will witness the volcanic origins of Diamond Head, seeing the “memories of the land” awaken to show how the crater was formed by magma. It turns a geography lesson into a visual event, helping students retain the history of their island.

A Seamless School Day

We know that timing is everything when managing a busload of students. Here is how XploreRide fits into your field trip schedule:

  • 10:00 – Arrival at DFS Waikiki: School bus drops off students at the designated zone. Our staff greets the group, performs a headcount, and provides a safety briefing.
  • 10:15 – Boarding & Gear Up: Students board the bus in an orderly fashion and are fitted with headsets. It’s a controlled environment, making chaperone supervision easy and stress-free.
  • 10:30 – The Educational Ride: The 40-minute immersive tour begins. Students travel through the “Deep Sea,” “Volcano,” and “Flower” zones, learning about history and science in real-time.
  • 11:15 – Debrief & Lunch: Drop off back at DFS Waikiki. From here, you can walk across the street to the Royal Hawaiian Center for a food court lunch, or take a short walk to Kapiolani Park for a picnic and a teacher-led discussion about what they learned.
